SAT Preparation

Overview:

The SAT is a standardized test widely used for college admissions in the United States. It assesses students’ readiness for college and provides colleges with a common data point for comparing applicants. The SAT measures skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, reflecting the knowledge and skills that are essential for success in college.

Test Structure:

As of 2025, the SAT is administered in a digital format and consists of two main sections:

  1. Reading and Writing (64 minutes):
    • This section evaluates comprehension, vocabulary in context, and the ability to revise and edit texts.
    • It includes questions on grammar, usage, and rhetorical skills.
  2. Math (70 minutes):
    • This section assesses mathematical skills, including algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, and some advanced math topics.
    • A calculator is permitted throughout the entire math section.

The total testing time is approximately 2 hours and 14 minutes.(SAT Suite)

Scoring:

Each section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800, with a total composite score ranging from 400 to 1600. There is no penalty for guessing; only correct answers contribute to the score.(Wikipedia)

Digital Format:

The SAT is now administered digitally, featuring adaptive testing where the difficulty of questions adjusts based on the test-taker’s performance. This format aims to provide a more personalized assessment experience.(nypost.com)
